1957 Pontiac Rearend

I have a 1957 Pontiac Super Chief and I am trying to find out if anyone knows of a rearend that I can swap with the original. I haven't done anything under the car yet so I can give you any information on the stock rearend. If I have to weld on new brackets, get rid of the leaf for coil-over, it doesn't matter. I just need to make a change. I am putting in a big horse small block with a 400 turbo and I need a rear end for the car. I know that I can go with a custom 9 inch but there has to be something out there that will work.

Help please!

re: 1957 Pontiac Rearend

Olds and Pontiac rears were what the old drag cars used, back when. Very strong. Rivaling 9"Fords. Only problem now is internals are getting scarce..Bearings and seals are common but serious gear ratios and posi units are like hens teeth..

re: 1957 Pontiac Rearend

Depends on your goal.

I would stay with new custom leaf springs and go to a Ford rear end.

If you want to do a 4 link or even a 4 bar with air suspension, go for it.
