I have merged some of the info from the other post that was sent to the dump.

Just wondering where the info you are quoting comes from, the build date actually sounds a little late for a 57 model.
As noted the NE prefix indicates the engine is from a 57 New Yorker, not a 300. The thing about the 1957-8 Dodges is that a Chrysler Hemi is a bolt in using factory parts (i.e. it can be made to look like it came that way) which I suspect is probably the case with your car. With the exception of the 354s installed in the D501s (which are documented) there is no evidence showing that Dodge ever put Chrysler HEMIs in their cars. There are a LOT of stories that generally get better with each telling but unless you can come up with genuine proof and documentation that is all it is....stories. Don Garlits is still alive (although going thru some health and personal issues currently). I sure if you contacted the museum in Florida however they would be able to tell you is he ever did own such a car. As a side note, as Centerline mentions Dodge came out with the D501 in 57 which was a special model with a 354 from the 56 Chrysler 300B. I’ve read a couple of different figures but the general consensus is there were only 50 of these cars built. Those cars can be identified by the special D501 badge on the trunk lid that replaces the regular Dodge D500 badge. |
