I don't have my Corvette book here right now, but a search found that I guessed right, you should have a typical 8.2 inch ring gear, which SHOULD by all means directly swap with the gears of the 60 Impala you inquired about, and several others.

This is a common ring and pinion and new parts are still available for it.

The Impala axle should be similar in design to the ford 9-inch and have a drop out center section (or third member as commonly referred as).

The gears and the third members from 1955 thru 1964 Chevy big cars interchange with 55 to 62 Corvettes. Also 62 and 63 Novas. Suspect the like year trucks too.

I wasn't sure of the entire third member swapping in to the Corvette, but knew the rest did.
