My stock 1960 C10 rear end apparently can't be upgraded to taller gears and posi. It is the drop out style (55T?) with 3.90 gears. Can someone tell what axle would make a good swap? I would like posi and keep the 6-lugs and would like to be able to upgrade to a ratio of 3.50:1 or so. Thanks for all your help.

Find a newer 4X4 Chevy or Gmc they have 6 lugs and some are posi.In 1970 or 71 Chevy went to 5 lugs but kept 6 lugs on 4X4s so anything from there till now should be OK.

Pre-88 chevy/gmc 4x4. It's a good easy swap. re-use your perches and your panard bracket. gears are 276 (& lower)307,340,& higher.

Posi is a little hard to find, but they did make them.

The optional 60 gear is 336, mainly in automatics. It is being repro'd but pricey at $399?

The "350" gear you asked about is really not a lot of change in RPMs. I'd do a 307 at least, unless you have an OD trans.

Pre-88 Chevy 4X4 it is. I'm not sure what ratio we will use yet, 3.50 was just a guess.

I said pre 88 because the Chevy pickup in 88 changed their wheel offsets. The Suburban continued for a couple of years with the old body shell with the rear that would still fit.

Suburbans usually have the lowest numerically gear sets...because they were used more for cars than trucks.
