Do your self a huge favor and install a (1) one wire alt. One wire to the alt from the battery, and your done. They are self exciting. I paid $83.00 for mine.
Try it you`ll like it.

One wire, chrome from Jegs, on my '62 Impala. $95.00. Easiest way to go.

I used an alt. from a 77 chev. pu on my 72 Commando. Got the "how to" from a jeep web site. Very good info on the conversion. Try this..... http://mightymo.org/Proj_OneWire.html
