1965 327 vortec heads/R700

I have a stock 1965 327 2 bolt main. 2 speed aluminum case powerglide. Will the 5.7 vortec heads bolt right up w/o any modifications or special equipment? What is the difference on the vortec 062's and the other 192's ?? Can I run 87 octane or do I need to run 92? Will a R700 automatic bolt up to the engine w/o any modifications or special equipment? PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!!

Yes the vortec heads will bolt up, but they will require a vortec intake also along with self aligning rocker arms. There really isn`t much difference in the vortec castings, some say the exhaust port is better on one than the other however some web sites dispute this. If your 327 has flat top pistons you should be okay with pump gas. a 700R4 is a bolt in, but if you retain the lock up torque converter, you`ll need a painless wiring kit, and you`ll likely have to modify the crossmember.

A 700 requires a TV cable hookup.

Depending on what this is in the stock crossmember may only need to be moved but he will also need to shorten his driveshaft and change the yoke, the 700 is longer than a PG and has a larger yoke. A 200-4R is the same over all length as the '65 PG and uses the same yoke so would not require any driveshaft mods and should only need the crossmember moved back to where it would be positioned for a TH400. Of course there will be some shift linkage mods needed or a new shifter installed. Either OD is well worth the effort to swap though.
