Question 1965-66 Thunderbird LANDAU headliner-shell reattachment

EDIT 1965-66. dought !

in my 1966 LANDAU thunderbird, there are 2 paperboard brittle as hell 1/2 shells that a liner was glued to way back in the day. When I got the car, the previous owner had it pinned up and glue was failing. I took it to an upholstery shop, and they applied new foam to it after taking all the old off. They ordered the replacement vinyl "Ivy Gold" material and again adheared it to the foam. I re installed it and was quite happy with it even though it wasn't an EXACT same thing ( just going for finished look here, not show stopper)

WELL ! along comes the SUN and decides it doesn't want me to have a headliner, It wants DRAPERIES !

UGH ! I took out the headliners as the glue failed due to the heat, and attempted to use some 3M super adheasive. This worked for 3 weeks, and then BLAMO ! the sun (and sweltering heat) returned and decided to work its magic again.

I got soo pissed I ripped them out and they are sitting downstairs in storage untill I figure this out.
someone please help. I was told the Vinyl is too heavy for the modern adheasives, and that they used a form of varnish on the underside to keep its form back in the 1960's. I was also told that I could cover them with the newer style "felt" headliners of todays cars as it is much lighter and won't suffer the "peal affect" due to weight gravity and heat.

I did a search here, but came up with nothing to this sort of headlinner as many people haev the bow style. I can not use this type as there is a "Heads up" consaul that runs the center of the Landau roof interior.

thanks for reading my dribel.

I saw somewhere (and I cant find it for the life of me) a company (I think in Florida) that sells replacement fiberglass shells witht he material already attached. <img src="graemlins/pain.gif" border="0" alt="[pain]" />

66 T-Bird Headliner

I had the same problem with the headliner falling after all of those years. The glue that seemed to do the trick, and has now been holding since 1989 is the Motorcraft weather stripping glue purchased from the Ford Dealer. It seems to hold just about anything that I've ever needed to glue any of my cars.
