1965 International 1200 pick Not cracking over with power

I recently bought this truck that has been sitting for 3 years, got it towed to my house...and finally poured gas in the carb. using a battery from my 65 mustang. i cranked it but does not have enough power to crank .so I ran the jumper cables with my 07 jeep...and it seems stronger to turn over but it still feels like its not gettting juice to keep it cranking.

i went ahead and took the complete battery from my Jeep and used that instead and after the 4th crank it seems like the battery seems like its going to die.
can somone point me in the right directions.

the ground cable looks ok.
the postive cable looks ok but could use a new cable..

can somone point me in the right directions. as what I can do or what to test??

i know its a V8 STICK shift, either a 305 CI or 266CI

Take your jumper cables and hook the neg to the battery and the other end to a mounting bolt on the starter, hook the pos to the battery, make sure it's in netural and the brake is set then touch the pos jumper cable to the battery lug on the starter, if if spins over well........ replace both battery cables.

i went ahead and did what u told me in that exact order. the minute i connected the positive to the starter lug the dome light was bright when i engaged the key swtich i got a clunk sound. with no crank......i made sure the connections were good. and they were.

i even tried doing it with my jeep "jumping it" and nothing, same thing.

i noticed that when i did this i heard a sound of clicking coming from what i thought was the starter relay...but it was actually coming from the voltage regulator.



EODGUY i read the post u left Hbrown....could i have a bad solenoid?

FYI overtime i try to crank the car from inside im pressing the brake and the clutch.
what do i do next??THANKS

That might be it..... Most Advanced Auto type places will test your starter for free. Sounds like you have some dirty connections or bad cables.

so i went ahead and installed a brand new starter solenoid only and it seems to be doing the same problem. it cranks a hair better. but still no powerful constant crack. as you can see in the video do you thing its fine and it needs to just ignite and fire up??

do you think it can be the starter itself internally? when i took the starter to Orellys auto parts to get it tested, the guy said starter seems find but gear wobbles to much. thats why i only purschased the solonoid...being it was only $14. the video doesnt show but i i also connected it direct to the starter and got same weak crank.

It might be the starter, but it seems to spin over fast enough to get it to start, just a little slow. That could be crud in the crankcase and oil passages from sitting for so long or bad cables/connections or the starter. I'd change the oil, get it started and running, warmed up to proper engine temps etc...... before I threw more money at it....... just getting it lubed up again may free up the engine so the starter is more effective.

One could pull the plugs and oil the cylinders with afew squirts in each hole. Then crank it over with the plugs out , that may be a good way to free it up a bit, plus you can check the plugs and replace them if needed.
That may help it start.Also the plug wires may not be giving all it needs.
If they are real old , they may not be firing the plugs off very well.

GREAT NEWS GUYS....so i went ahead and bought brand new battery cables and did a oil change on it and now it has a okay crank...but now no ignition..

i looked at the points they look okay, dist and cap look ok too...but i really dont know how to test or diagnose the points.., how do i test the ignition coil?

i know i can buy spark plugs and wires...but im just holding off buying till after xmas.

i think i made it worse by adding to much gas down the carb....that it finally got a "clunk" ...i might have flooded it... how do i fix that probelm?
