i recently purchased a 1965 mercedes benz 220, i know this is an older rare car and parts for it are hard to find, it was and is used as jsut a weekend car really, until last week everything was going fine, then it stopped and i found i needed a new alternator, which got me to thinking, mind you in dont know much about hot rids except that they are older vehichles and that they are driveable on a daily basis, i think, weel in any case, they seem to have more power and get up than my mercedes, would it be possible for me to imporve on my vehichle in the same manner as these? i absolutely love my car, this is my first car and i think it is incredible, i used my money for school books on it!! well if anyone out there had any ideas or clues at all please help me out....thank you very much

I would encourage you to keep the car and see what you can do about converting the drivetrain to a small block Chevrolet. I have been rodding for 45 years and find this type of stuff a challenge. I did and XKE Jag/350 but I have not done a Mercedes but I know it can be done. The first thing I would check for is can I use the front sump or will I have to use a rear sump or maybe a blazer sump. You know of course that this will take your ride out of service for a min. of 2-3 months while you figure out this process. I expect you can find some very good advice on-line. Good luck

You didn't say it was a sedan, but I am guessing you would have told us if it was an SL model. But one thing is sure, if you mofidy the car in any way other than to restore it, you will ruin its economic value. They are really expensive to work with, but check the values of restored cars like yours. They are very collectible. I think it would be a shame to change it. Just one humble opinion from a guy who has owned a dozen MBenz's.
