1966 Chevy II
Does anyone know if a 700R4 tansmission will fit in a '66 Chevy II without modifying the tunnel? I want an overdrive transmission and would like to stay away from a 200R4 if possible. I am running a stroker with 490 ft. lbs. of torque.

I have never done that exact swap. I did have a 66 Nova with a 454 and a turbo 400. That all fit fine. Now I do have a 400 and a 700r4 in the shop and they look to be the same size. So I think it will fit just fine. You will like the 700r4 it has a low first gear and then the overdrive. I have one behind a stroker in a T bucket.

Thanks for the reply. I've been reading on several different sites and believe it will fit as you say, I'll just need a shorter driveshaft. Do you have any experience with a 200R4 and a stroker?

700 R4s didn't live long behind the 6.5 N/A diesel that was in my truck so Im not sure how they would do behind the stroker
