1966 nova idle arm issue
I have a 1966 chevy II nova ss that I need to replace the idle arm. I bought a high performance idle arm from classic industries in CA that is the same design as the original idle are (S shaped with bushings on each end. The end of the existing idle arm that is attached to the frame had 2 washers on the bushing side that has a nut that screws onto the idle arm shaft. The nut is held in place by a cotter pin. My issues are:
1. I believe that there should be a washer on both sides of the upper arm, 1 between the nut and the upper bushing and 1 for underneath the upper part of the arm between the upper bushing and the metal of the arm..not 2 between the upper part of the arm and nut that a cotter pin goes thru...i need to confirm the placement of washers on the original style idle arm.
2. When putting in the new idle arm it appears that the top nut cannot be tighten real tight or it will wear the lower bushing and the arm will not swivel. I need to confirm this thought.
3. Is it better that i do not put in the old "original style" idle arm and put in an aftermarket like a moog high performance design having bearings...if i put in the new design do i create other issues in replacing the idle arm.

I try to use moog parts for almost everything.I used a moog in my 65 and 67 chevyII.
Are you using a chevyII centre link or "buick" what kind of oil pan are you using?
Not a big deal "lildrip049", but it's an idler arm not idle arm, no biggy just a minor correction, so when you talk to people about it, it will be pronounced right.
I agree with Vinniekq2 about Moog parts as well as his other questions. Moog - Good dependable parts.
idler not idle arm problem
I would luv to put in a moog idler arm but my research indicates that only the bushings are availible for a 66 chevy II nova ss...can either of you tell me where i can but one--thx russ
I made a few enquiries,lets see who has an answer? You did not say what centre link you are using or if the pan was front or rear sump? (v-8?)
I called my local real parts store and yes the bushings are what is available. I have to tell you, that's all that wears (unless it was REALLY driven after the bushings were gone :pain:) and it's all you need from my experience.
The car is 100 percent original from gm thus i have the original center link and the pan/pump are for the original L79 engine (327/350 hp). i know trhat the bushing are available fro moog, but i would have to have a iachine shop install them...i am looking for the entire arm from moog or a comparable baring driven bushing
I can bring in this idler arm. It will cost $174.99 and will take about 3-4 weeks to have it shipped. If you need it faster I can have it expedited but there will be additional charges for this service. unfortunately I was not able to find it locally.
