1967 Pontiac Laurentian {Bonniville} T-350 problem

Hi all new to here from New Zealand

I have a wee issue with the trans in my 67 Pontiac Laurentian {Bonniville}

I have just removed the Powerglide & fitted a th350 but the bloody thing would not select 3rd . I checked the {newly fitted also ] Hurst shifter & Its shifting fine.. It shifted fine into 1 & 2 but not 3 I disconnected the modulator & now it will shift manually into 3rd but slips . As In engine revs & the trans sort of slips & the trans then sort of grabs & the car drives ok . But if i push the pedal down further same thing again engie revs but the car does not accelerate ..
The trans was a used unit so I just trying to find out your thoughts is it a pull back out job due to something being worn out ??

God I hope this makes sense

Hi,
Welcome to HotRodders.com Glad to have you with us.

If you are getting normal 1-2 shifts, but no 2-3 shift, you may have a sticking governor, there is a cover on the side of the trans you take off to remove the governor. as you lift the weights on the gov. the spool valve should move freely through its entire travel & then return when you let it go. If it's sticking, try cleaning it with brake cleaner. Also adjust the kick
down cable, if neither one of these work you'll need to pull the trans, because it may also be a dried/cracked seal.
