okay i have a 307 in my nova. .was planning on rebuilding it wit parts from a 305ho 4rm 1984. . my dad says it would b better 2 put the whole 305 in instead of the 307 saying tht the 305 was a 14sec motor. . i mean the 307 has the 327 crank and has alot of low end torque and good gas mileage. i dont usually seond guess my dad but im on here 2 ask. . what could b done? is the 305ho a better motor than the 307?? the mods tht were going to b done 2 the 307 where aluminum dual plane intake a qjet carb and a lunati 6101 cam + the 305ho heads.

would the 305ho swap into the nova b a better choice??

Giving both engines the same parts, both engines will make nearly the same power. The 305 powerband will be stronger down low, the 307 stronger higher up.

Neither will be as good as a larger engine, but if that's the two you have to work with, and if your Nova is an all steel car and has highway gears, the 305 would be a better DD/street engine, IMHO.
