1968 Dodge Dart - Need help
Hey so this is my 1968 Dodge Dart 270.

I would LOVE for the interior to look like this https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/i...MOR3jClPwZR4G1 Or this http://www.collectioncar.com/files/1...1345352434.JPG But I can't find any bucket seats for Dodge Dart. I would love to hear ideas for what to do with anything. I need good advice on brakes, I'm not a fan of the Drum Brakes that are on it. It's a 3-speed automatic but the trans was bad and just got rebuilt. I don't know much about transmissions but Paddle Shifters sound pretty freaking awesome. Basically, I'm new to this. I'm 19 and just now started to take an interest in actually working on cars and need to learn. So yea, what do ya think? |

Idk, there's a lot I'd like to do with the car. But I can never find what I need. Or at least what I'll expect to pay. Anyone know an approximate price for these engines? 318 340 383 |

Upholster the seat and drive it. That car is a gas sipper and should stay that way. If you take it apart, it will die.
Its way cool the way it is, in such beautiful shape. Hardly a scratch on it. What you need is a 2 door duster body to start with or a 2 door dart. Build THAT from the ground up instead. If you start taking the green car apart, you will be walking to work. A lot. Not trying to be flip and I sure dont want to discourage you, but it would be a waste of mony and a perfectly good car to do anything with the 4 door 68. I like the 68 as is. It is so much easier to build a car from a bare body or get a deal on another project and start there. Plus you allready have a car to chase parts with. No sir leave the green machine alone. Of course I would upholster the seat, tint the windows and put a blazin sound system in it, while you are getting things together for another car. Keep posting and hanging around here. You can get advise on tint, upholstery, sound systems etc. The 68 would be a good starter car as it doesnt need a buttload of stuff, and the experience you get will be useful for anything you do in the future. If you live in the south or southwest, look around. There is probably a nice rust free body setting behind someones house or in a field just beggin for a young guy like you to come along and save it. Just a thought.

What is your goal
Dont take any of the chrome or fish eye lights off they are only for the 68
year car. Do you want something that twists off the line and pulls g's ,then 440 is the way to go,I love 383 short stroke engines but in a grudge match 440. Parts rebuild is easy on the wallet also.A 400 stroker is money to make a 451 472 b deck engine. Rb engines easy to get bore out .040 good heads headers. 318 easy to build short stroke 1967-1970 is the best with 360 heads or 340 x or j heads are good. Tranny 727 or see what new over drives you can find. Rear end find a truck 9 1/4 3:55 tough 8 3/4 getting very expensive. The bolt pattern on your car is the small left handed threads. I had in my career 3-69 darts 1-gt 68 1-270 68 dart and converted the first ones to a 400 then to a 440.2 Dodge Dart Sports with sun roofs.1 70 Duster Blew alot of trannys so build one heavy duty. Dodge Trucks makes excellent parts donors Your Dart will be nose heavy with a B-RB block.Dont cut that hood save it find one allready cut. |

Just a little info ,you can use a 273 ,high reving good hp,318 the best engine produced ,had less warranty work than any engine no matter manufacture ,340 high hp very fast expensive and hard to find,360 will bolt in if you use driver side exaust manilold from 318 2 sizes check exaust portsise some will not cover ports on 360 ,A 383 You must change subframe and drivers exaust VERY hard to find no repos extra weight reqires many parts Not recomended ,Lastly the hemi will bolt in sunce you have 6 cyl subfrane hemi will not fit standard v8 subframe will have to go to heavy tortion bars and suspension ,Again BAD CHOICE my choice Price dependability ease of install easy to find parts hands down 318

There really isn't any good bodies or any car I want out here. There was one Nova but was out of my price range. Bah dumb keyboard posted it before I finished typing this. Anywho, I won't be able to afford any of my big ideas for this car anytime soon anyway lol. It'll give me time to think. I like sleepers, and thought this would be a nice one. Ohyea can you put bucket seats in a 4 door 270? Someone said that the holes are drilled under the carpet and I just need to take out the bench seats. But I can't find any information on them online, like dimensions. The bucket seats aren't permanent, I just want something more comfortable to sit in while I reupholster the Bench seats. I found some nice Tan ones from a Chevy Cobalt I think, for $40 for both of them. Pretty much brand new. And I need to know if the car can actually fit them, and if so what kind of mounts do I need to fit them into the Dodge. Last edited by LittleGreen; 01-17-2013 at 05:27 PM. |

Buckets will fit in a 4 door.
You will most likely have to fabricate some brackets for the chevy seats to fit in the green machine, but they may bolt right down. Its just a matter of scopin it out. Buckets and a console would be cool in a 4 door. No rule says you cant. You may not find a car you like around where you are, but keep in mind this: I live in Pennsylvania... My car was fom so. cal. Just sayin. I like your little green car. I Know plenty of other guys here do too. It definitly can be in a car show .

Although I did find a 73 Dodge dart 2 door for $1000, Starts, runs, slant 6 as well. I just wish I had the cash to nab it. Ugly color but I could fix that. Dunno, but it's a possibility. http://images.craigslist.org/3K63I43...05ba72159b.jpg |

craigslist also has a 65 cuda S all original, with the 273 in it.
1000 bucks. Doesnt run , but is a new mexico car, all there and rust free. Even the bright work looked good. It was in eastern NM IIRC. Paint and interior will be burnt to a crisp, but the bones are there. That 73 you posted would be a good driver, but you allready have that. Search craigslist in all the citys in New Mexico (5 or 6) you'll see it.
