1968 vin problems

Where can I find the vin history on a truck? (If it's stolen or not) I bought a 68 around a month ago I just found out the title vin and the truck vin do not match. Carfax and sites like them only use 17 diget numbers, 1980 to present. The police can find out the info on the truck I have very easy but if it is stolen then they will take it. Please , if anyone has any info on where to look, let me know. Thank you

so does that mean if you find out its stolen on your own you would keep it anyway? if it was stolen from you i'm sure you would want someone to give it back to you! if you have a reason to think its stolen report it and find out for sure. it may not be old car vins and reg. numbers get messed up more than you know so its probably a clerical error

duh, yes

you would give up thousands of dollars to , do the right thing? IF, it is stolen, I loose everything. NO money back, no pat on the back. NO NOTHIN. You must be full of money. It must be nice. To answer your Question. yes, I will keep it. Wrong as it may be. I am just a poor hot rod widow.

actually no, i'm not full of money but if i'm going to invest a lot of cash i'm going to do a little checking first to make sure its a good thing. who did you buy it from? did you go to someones house> or was it a dealer? if it was stolen you can go back to the person you bought it from and have the cops deal with them you can sue to get your money back

honestly i'm not judging you i'm just giving my opinion which is what we do here on this site. and as long as you can sleep good at night the decision is yours to make. i wish you luck.

well yes, Helrazr is one in a million!

can you go to your DMV and do a title search on either vin #'s?

someone might have parts trucked it together, and just used the wrong vin plate.???...

Stolen or not, you will have to check it out. Chances are, it's just a mistake, but you can't get it lisenced if it is wrong, either way.

BTW, if it does turn out stolen, I would drag the person I bought it from with me...........................

I know in Pennsylvania, there is an allowance of 1 digit difference in the VIN when transferring, BUT they check it out and have you take the vehicle to the local State Police barracks for confirmation.

Could it be that whoever you bought it from owned another truck and they gave you the wrong title to one of their other trucks?
