Unfortunately I have seen a 69 camaro with a smog pump . It was a ss with a 350 engine with California emissions . They are far and few between but If I was a betting man I would put good money on the fact it origionally came from or was intended to go to California . The one I saw had an air pump and a lean burn carb and a few other items I honestly didn't know what they were but it was the least amount of polution crap I have seen on an engine from the factory . I would try to grab a factory shop manual at a swap meet . I have a chevrolet 67 truck service manual and it has the smog pump shown in a section for emissions on a 327 of all things .

Go to the website that is dedicated to the first generation camaros. They will be able to tell you anything you need to know about your Camaro.

STINMAR1, you are correct, it is a California car, they are the ones that started this whole emissions crap in the mid 60's......

Sounds like your engine is from a California car, and should be a small block V8. Air pumps first appeared in California in 1966, 1967's had them but in 1968 the requirement for "smog" pumps was reduced but returned with the 1969 model year. The hi-perfromance big blocks were not required to run the smog pumps during that period....

That was my first new car, 1969 396 SS 325HP. The car did come from the factory with the smog pump. You should get the service book for that year. You can't beat the info they have. Good luck, The Car Nut Joe
PS I bought mine in Yonkers NY
