1969 camaro ammeter
i have been told 69 camaro ammeter is not a true ammeter and the wiring is different than traditional ammeter. my wiring schematics are gm but do not show ammeter only charge lites. this ammeter as wired in series shows 0 amps with key off , but dome light pushes meter to 20 amps adding the console courtesy light pushes it to 40 amps. my inductive fluke meter shows a current draw of 1.5 amps with dome and courtesy light on. any help is appreciated

Doc here,
It's a Differential Voltage meter, If the wiring is unmolested: The black wire goes to a fuseable link that connects to the junction block behind the battery. The black/white wire goes to a fusable link that connects to the horn relay. Both wires should be 14 ga. Doc
