1969 Camaro Tach Installation Help

Hey guys.

I hope everyones new year is going well. I am trying to hook up a 1969 camaro tach in my 1969 plain jane camaro. I also have the smaller gas gauge. It is a stock 8000rpm Z-28 tach going in the tach pod in the dash. My question is that I don't know how to hook it up. Can I hook it up to my Petronix HEI distributor? Or do I need the harness for the back and then use those wires to hook it up. If so which wires go where and on what leads? I hate to waste the money I have in the tach. Any and all information you can give me would be a big help. Thanks in advance for your help, it is always appreciated.

tach wiring HEI

Newer cars have printed circuit boards. So, there are no wires they just plug in. So wiring color will be the prob cause I don't have scematics for your car or tach.

There are 3 wires on a tach. Power, dist, ground. Power wire to a switched source (possibly red wire). Ground to chasis or to another black wire. Third wire runs to HEI distributor. There are 5 pins on an HEI cap. 4 of them are already in use. The 5th pin is for your tach and may even be labelled if you look closely.
