Cool 1970 Chevelle...Project Car

I found this 1970 Chevelle on Trader Online and something about it appealed to me.It needs a good paint job,and other minor restoration procedures.But...it has the following:

1)Lightly Warmed Over 350
2)350 Turbo Trans
3)12 Bolt Rear End (Not Sure If Posi)
4)90% Rust Free
5)Solid Floors
6)Never Wrecked

I figure that it's worth what he's asking..$3000?I think that I may be able to get him down to $2500.About $2000 and it will be a nice car from what he told me in an e-mail.What do you guys think? It would make a nice SS clone and Nadaguides.com said that it would be worth $12000 in new condition.

How does it sound?

Thanx!
Izzy

Cool

Does sound like a good deal. I paid 2k for my 64 and 2k for my 65 pro-street projects without drive trains.

Cool

Thanx Guys! The seller contacted me this morning and said that both rear quarter panels will have to be replaced, but he said that he'd include 2 new ones with the car.He also said that there were a couple of rust holes in the trunk, which wouldn't be a problem. He said that a dime wouldn't fall through them. Also,he said that the floorboards were solid,it's got a limited slip 12 bolt rear end,and a clear title. Also, the bottom of the doors and fenders were a little rusted, but he said that they weren't rusted through. He also said that the inside of the trunk door was a little rusted,in which he would replace with a new one seeing that it would be a pain in getting it sanded.I can't remember if the VIN said that it was an SS or not.It could make a good SS Clone if it wasn't though. He won't come down on the price,so it's still $3000.How does it sound now?

Thanx!
Izzy

if you spend 12 thou on it it will be worth 12 thou when you are done. it has too much rust to my liking for $3000. 5 years ago i sold mine with a new interior and no rust and great mill for $3000 ran an ad forever for $4,500 and couldnt get it. i know they are worth more now but body work is expensive. as for a clone SS i will tell you this IN 1970 ALL SS CHEVELLES CAME WITH A BIG BLOCK ENGINE. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SMALL BLOCK 1970 SS CHEVELLE, WHICH IS WHY I SOLD MY CAR. however, the car lot across the street has a cherry attempt at a clone with a sbc in it and are asking $16,000. it's been on the lot for 4 months now. they were asking $14 for a real sbc SS 1972 chevelle which sold 3 months ago. i just bought an SS camaro with no rust (sbc) for $3000. it needs NO body work. you can do better. you would have to get bucket seats and console to make it look great and might as well forget the SS dash and cowl induction hood, then put a BBC engine in it. phooey

also saw a kid with a 69 that needed quarter panals and asked $5K. i told him his car was a wreck and offered $1,500. he told me to pound sand. 6 mo.s later the car was at a body shop for sale for $2,750 OBO. it was still too much. and if a car needs ANY body work, consider the paint to be non-existent cause it soon will be.

Cool

Well, probably the good part about this project is that I have an uncle taking an Auto Body class and I can get all of my Body Work done for Free. All that I have to pay for is the supplies,(paint,primer,clearcoat..etc.),and they provide the labor. They have done some paint jobs on a few cars that get 1st place in local car shows.I know that there is no such thing as a SS clone with a SBC.But,Nada says that they're worth about $30,000 as an original SS though with either the 396 or 454.I know that I base everything on Nada, but it's the most reliable that I've found.Body Work is not a problem. It's a running, driveable car and wouldn't take a ton to fix.Of course,I might still look around.

Thanx!
Izzy

nada is really good. its what the car insurance industry uses rather than kelly , which is what the car dealer will let you "borrow". but i, as well as the WASH ST DMV <img src="graemlins/pain.gif" border="0" alt="[pain]" /> ;prefer the Old Car Price Guide.and i just about **** when the chick at DMV whipped one out when she decided how much tax i was gonna have to (and i mean have to) pay to re-title my new bomb

Cool

What does the Car Insurance Companies go by when your car was in a wreck and they decided whether it is 'totaled' or not?

Thanx!
