1970 Mustang front suspension

I am modifying a 70 fastback and want to install a new suspension. Any suggestions based on experience? I was thinking of a Heidt's IFS. Welding is not a problem. I will not be racing this car but will have 400-500 HP.
Thanks
Paul

WELCOME to Hotrodders.com

Most Mustang folks keep the 70 original suspension and just upgrade it with springs and shocks. The Boss 302's were a good handing Mustang for their time and the Mustangs had a decent original suspension design wise ...

I have no real suggestions but as Moderator wanted to WELCOME you ...

re: 1970 Mustang front suspension

I would suggest keeping the stock suspension as well. There are some very good upgrades available through the Shelby Mustang aftermarket that can really make that car handle.

re: 1970 Mustang front suspension

For folks not dragracing, modifying the stock suspension is most popular. The extreme of wacking it and putting the MII stuff in is usually the last resort to jam an extra large engine in there. Otherwise the stock stuff can be made quite capable.
If you really want to do MII swap, then this is an excellent place to get more info. But if you want to look into what can be done with the stock stuff there are better places to check.
A few come mind right off, Vintage Mustang Forum, The Corral, and StangNet. Keep in mind that umpteen thousand or so folks have already asked umpteen thousand questions about Mustang suspensions at these sites so using the "search" functions is a very good idea before posting.
There are companies selling some very good "bolt on" solutions, Global West, Total Control, and Griggs. These parts are more roadrace oriented but many folks find this stuff to be great for "spirited" canyon type driving. There are a few more homebrew style things going on too, most centered around brake improvements. For instance, if your car currently has drum front brakes, there's a guy called "Mustang Steve" who sells brackets that allow you to bolt up late model Mustang 13" rotors and calipers to your existing hubs and spindles.
More stuff going on out there than I care to list but I believe I've given you some search fodder. My personal choices are more or less following the homebrew methods of a guy called "Opentracker". He's on a couple of different forums but I believe his most informative stuff is on the "Corral".

re: 1970 Mustang front suspension

Chris Alston recently acquired a company called Total Control from the people who started it. ( I know these guys were mentioned by gypsy in the previous post, but I wanted to expand on it a bit)

Total Control makes a line of suspension parts specifically for 65-73 mustangs that is WAY better than stock.

If you like stuff that looks like this,

or this,

Then check these guys out Here

Nice stuff. It works as good as it looks. I have a friend who has 2 Mustangs and a Comet set up with their stuff and he loves it.

Later, mikey
