You can start here. http://www.mymopar.com/6971opcodes.htm .
Does the center section load from the front or the rear and does it have a rear cover plate on it ?

Most came with 8 3/4" rear. Hemi cars were Dana.

Was it maybe just Hemi & 440-six pack 4 speeds?

I had a 70 Challenger RT 440-six and it had a Dana 60 4.10.

On the fender tag check for the following codes:

D56 = B&E-Body 3.54:1 "Dana 60" Rear Axle (69-71) HOWEVER, this code could also be B&E-Body 8.75" 3.55:1 Rear Axle (69-71)

D58 = 9.74" 4.10:1 "Dana 60" Axle (69-71)

D59 = B&E-Body 9.75" "DANA 60" 4.56:1

If your fender tag indicates an original 383 (E65) then you can be almost certain (99.9%) that your car came from the factory with an 8 3/4" rear end.
