1971 Chevelle VIN help
so my buddy's heavy Chevy Chevelle has the vin 134371L144211 and the block has the number 3970010 on the back by the bell housing. Is there anyway this could be the stock motor? Any help would be great!

The VIN checks out for a Cheverolet Chevelle 2 door Sport Coupe built in 71 at the LA plant.
The 3970010 block was first used in production in 1969 and saw usage through 1975. We need more info to ID the block as original to the car, need the cast date code (rear of block to the right of the casting number) and the engine assembly code stamped on the block located immediately forward of the RH cylinder head (includes the assembly code with date/suffix and the VIN code). |

Thanks for the help! When I get that number can I just google it or how does that work? And where did you get this information? Just wondering for future reference!

I use the book Chevrolet By the Numbers, Colvin.
