1972 chevy impala

there is a old woman who has a 1972 impala (black with black top) convertible sitting under a shed that hasn't moved in years

it doesn't look rusty from what i see it's a nice looking car
i have two questions

what kind of motor came these cars?

it's hasn't driven in a long time if i get it will i have to have the motor rebuilt?

350`s, 400`s mostly came in these cars, I have seen a few wagons of these years with a 396 or a 402. if it`s been sitting a long time it`s a good chance it`ll need a rebuild, but not all of it, sometimes, you can pour new oil in`em, let each cylinder soak with marvel mystery oil overnight, remove the points distributor and reprime the engine, install a HEI in it`s place, add new gas and fuel filter, clean the crud out of the carb, fire it up and cycle it just as you would a new engine, it`s likely it`ll need valve stem seals, but at least this way, you`ll know if the engine needs a rebuild or just a valve job.
