1973 429 engine

I have a 1973-429 engine , with the block id numbers as D3VE-A2A . I need to find out what type , cj,scj or plain 429

those numbers sound like the casting number for the heads the block casting should be around where the starter goes toward the rear of the block and unless you have head castings DO0E-R you will have a pretty plain engine the pre 72 heads are the good ones also i think pre 72 block deck height is shorter

Just plain 429-460, there was no SCJ or CJ stuff after '71. The "D3" is 1973 casting code.

Jrbowman......good info but the properly combined parts will turn that "plane Jane" 429 into a stump puller! Google "429 Ford engine build" and see the Car Craft magazine article using Edelbrock alum. heads. You can't always take everything these mags tell you as gospel but this build is pretty straight forward with good results. The heads are not cheap......but they will add a ton of performance and also reduce a ton of weight.......good luck.

Not exactly so, Ford did make the 460 Police Interceptor in 72 and 73 that used the CJ/SCJ heads, rods, etc.... Technically they are not CJ/SCJ engines but they are close enough.
