1973 Chevelle Malibu Engine Rebuild (pics 56k)
Hey guys, this is my '73 malibu's engine after two scored cylinders and 103k miles on it. The engine is getting rebuild now and I will put up pics of the new engine. Here's what was in it when it came out hehe.... Sorry for the amount of pics.
The engine is a sbc 350, it's currently in the shop but when it comes out it'll be a 355 (.030 over).
Story on the car: It was my grandpa's car (no jokes/smart remarks about it being a 4-dr
) and he gave it to my dad who's a mechanic in 1989. He took the stock 350 engine that was in there, tore it down and rebuilt it. When it was done he took it down to Lincoln City (Oregon coast) to his friend who was a muffler specialist. He put a new exhaust system on it then on the way back opened it up on a Looong stretch of road (before he'd properly broken the engine in) and scored two of the cylinders because he had a rebuild carb on there with frozen secondaries. That's where it all started. He soon realized the problem and fixed the secondaries a week later or so but the damage was already done as you can see. So it's been driven like that until we put it down cause it was running sooo bad in 2002, right before I got my permit. Now I finally got him to get the dang thing in the garage so we could rebuild the engine. This is what it looked like when it came out. Needless to say, we didn't know the amount of damage done, but we didn't expect this much
So we're rebuilding it now and it should be done within 3-4weeks, maybe sooner, probably sometime in August though. I'll post new pics when we get the engine back from the machine shop.
