I own a 1973 VW Beetle. It has been enhanced in many ways from suspension to engine. From tire/wheel size (16 front 18" rear) to exhaust, - the whole bit.
I successfully injected a 540 hp 1987 Turbo Porsche into the bug - with a 6 speed, - covered the inside with a 5 point roll bar and left all else simply stock with the exception of removing all the chrome and front bumper and adding a set of HELLA 7" driving lights and a front spoiler.

OK enough of the bragging, I did this all by myself - but I have a problem which to the very best of me I have trouble with.
I am not good at auto electrics and this bugs me.


My driver side rear tail light wiring.

This is what I have.
a 3 light-bulb assembly. (three bulbs on what I call a tree)
(it may be an after-market assembly)

On top is the blinker bulb - 1 metal prong (single filament bulb behind yellow casing) ,
below is the break light and driving light - 2 metal prongs ( dual filament behind red tail light cover)
on the bottom is the back up light - 1 metal prong (single filament behind white casing in tail light cover.

I have 5 wires coming from the car.
1 light brown.
1 red
2 white
1 black.

HELP , do you know which way they run?
is there a color combination for each light?

Get you a test light and turn on one circuit at a time. turn on your running lamps and see which wire gets power on it and wire it like that. you should have 4 wires that get power when you turn on your signals,tail lamps,brk lamps,and backups leaving one wire for a ground. if you need a more in depth procedure let me know.
