1974 Mercury Montego MX w/ bored 351C, I want 5 speed that fits

I got a 1974 Mercury Montego MX, 400 ( bored 351C) and a C6 3 speed auto trans. Well I was thinking of making it stick shift. 4 speed is classic but so limited in my eyes. I know the Ford 400 has the 460 bell housing bolt pattern, and the 460 was used through out the 80's. What's the possibility of finding a 5 speed tranny the would work, and any pointers are a help. Was thinking of just using a cabled clutch, rather than hydraulic.

You dont end up at 400 cubes with a 351C bored out.
If it is indeed a 351C there are plenty of 5 speeds from pony cars like the tremec you can use.The 351C shared the same bell battern and engine mount boss locations as the 289/302
I doubt you have a cleveland, my guess is you have the 400M which
shares the 429 460 bell housing pattern, as per your statement.
Maybe you can find an adapter to use with a 5 speed from advanced adapters, or Wilcap adapters.

Quick time makes a bell to put it all togther, otherwise a Ford 351M/400 bell from a truck should work along with the adapter plate for a 5spd. TKO-500 is a common transmission for this type of swap.. Bellhousing or adapter+ bellhousing is going to run $500ish+ the trans ( $1,500+ ), + other costs to the conversion. it's not really worth it.
400 uses Cleveland heads but is not a bored out 351C. shares a few parts but not many. The 351M is Modefied ( destroked ) version of the 400
