1975 nova 8.5 rear end
Does anyone know what donor car at pick a part can I grab a 373 ring and pinion out of to put in my 1975 chevy nova 8.5 rear end. should I grab the carrier and all or just take the ring and pinion gear off?

Plenty of 3.73:1 gears if you know what they came in. Most '71-'74 Z/28s, '77.5-'79 Z28s with 4-speed, many 4x4 '80-'up 1/2-ton full-size V8 pickups, some 2WD 6-cylinder '80-up half-ton full-size pickups.
However, I'd rather spend $144 on these: http://www.summitracing.com/search/?...M-741001&dds=1 |

Truck 8.5 gears are fully interchangeable with car 8.5 gears. Of course they will work. I put the 3.42:1 8.5" gears from my old '83 C-10 into my landlord's '81 Firebird. Even used the C-10 3-series open diff. ( carrier ), since the 'bird was 2.41:1, ( 2-series ) and Scott doesn't need a posi. Both are 28-spline, so I kept the 'bird's original axleshafts.
You're probably thinking of how the truck 12-bolts used an under-size pinion shaft compared to the car 12-bolt. |
