1st let me state that Ive researched numerous posts about th350 problems, but I have no idea ho similar the 200 is to the 350, so I dont know which approach to take.
Heres the issue. My sisters 77 nova 305 with the th200 developed a leak at the dipstick tube where it enters the tranny. It was about a quart, maybe a quart and half low when I got the car. it has probably been like this for 6 months. I replaced the fluid. When put in drive, it starts out in 3rd and when manually put into second it just stays in 3rd. When put into 1st, the wheels lock up like you put it into park. The B&M shift cable that was installed a year ago is still adjusted properly. I have no clue as to what is causing these symptoms, but Im betting it has to due with being run on low fluid for months. Just an FYI, the car runs beautifully, does not slip or make noises in the tranny, just feels gutless until about 40mph.
If the problem is internal, I will just buy a th350 off craigslist to replace it, but if it is a simple fix I will glady do that instead.
Any ideas as to what the problem is?
