Post 1979 malibu 350 turbo tran

I am in the process of restoring a 1979 Malibu Clasic, 2 door. I have just replaced the rearend with your basic 10 bolt. The car has been sitting up for about 2 years. The trandimition has plenty of fluid. I have just replaced the modulator valve that tells it when to shift. The tran. still wont shift. I am not a perfitional mechanic, just someone who is good with wrenches. If you have any advice for me as to how to solve this problem please let me know. <img src="graemlins/crash.gif" border="0" alt="[crash]" />

what is the condition of the trans fluid, if it has a burnt smell, you'll need an over haul. if it is ok . remove the govner, it is the round cover near back of the trans, with the cover off, pull the govner out and check the nylon gear at the end . the gear should be flat and square, if it is beveled, this is your problem.(replace gear or govner) if not there is a small vavle in the govner , make sure it is free to move by shaking it, (if stuck, clean or replace) if ok . it may be a problem with your vavle body, the 1-2 shift vavle may be stuck, or bad gaskets, or your intermediade clutch, or one way sprage clutch , may be bad. these last 3 problems you should have a trans tech check them out. I hope this info helps you out!
