1979 Trans Am repaint opinions

I've been thinking that I need to freshen up my '79 Trans Am a bit. It needs a new trunk lid and I want to re-skin the doors anyway, so I might as well re-paint the whole car. It's the original Acrylic Lacquer (Mayan Red) and I'd like to keep the original color. The paint is still solid, but it's wearing thin. It lives outside year round and I was thinking about a single stage paint versus BC/CC. I'm looking for opinions. Thanks.

Nice lookin' bird ,Mang.
It's like the polar opposite of the one in my avatar. It was White with a red sticker kit. As far as opinions go , I'd roll with the single stage. outside is hard on clear coat. Single stage can always be 'scuffed', cleaned and resprayed/touched up. clear coat is an art I never got the grasp of.

I would go with clear coat it has a lot better UV protection then the single stage

Single stage is ok for solid colors because it can be wet sanded and buffed. If it is a metalic color you can't wet sand it if it is done in single stage. Color sanding makes any paint job look better as it can remove surface defects such as runs, sags and dirt. If it a solid color I would use single stage urethane paint.

re: 1979 Trans Am repaint opinions

BTW, it is non-metallic right now. That probably explains why the original paint has lasted for so long.

not to mention that a metallic is ALOT easier to spray in BC/CC.
