Chop top,,,,,,,,
Hi,of course you can chop the top on a C-10 truck,it will definately be easier than chopping a car,to save some of the hassle,I would tape the 2 inch cut(using 2 inch masking tape) on the door frames and front pillars, see if you can get the cut, where you wont have to have the rear glass cut,(i have an1983 C-10,)where the back glass rubber is,there is an indented part around the window,i would ,1st remove the glass,(and rubber) then cut about 1 inch to the outside of the indentation, and remove that section down.that should be kinda easy to do,if you can find the same truck in the bone yard, cut off the rear half of the top, then cut your top, move it down the 2 inches, then cut the bone yard top to fit, without the bone yard top,you will have to weld 2 seams across top, with it you will only have to weld 1 seam across.( with the chop, the top will get a little longer)have fun, take your time, start your welding by tacking with a mig set on LOW heat, about 1 inch apart, then 1/2 inch and keep going closer til your finished, dont get the metal hot,or you will end up with a warped top.

That's awesome! Thanks for the great info!
Now I can just slice through the door frame and weld it back on with now issues on the windows? And what about the front windshield will it be hard to find a glass to fit? Last, I don't fully understand the bone yard roof, do I lay it over my chopped roof or what are the details on that? Again appreciate the info |

Chop top......
with the bone yard roof, after you cut off the top, and cut out the 2 inch section, your c-10 roof will be too short. (front to rear)you will need to cut your top into 2 pieces (crosswise) tack weld front section, with the front pillers aligned, then (if you use your roof,)you tack the rear section to align with the rear of cab,you will have a gap between front and rear of top.if you get another section of roof, you can weld it in,and only have 1 seam to weld across. there are a bunch of different ways to cut the glass,i cant explain them. put a search in this site (top right) and you should get that info.

Mr Bob make's some good point's..
Now if your using two roof top to do this... What you may want to do is,The roof will need to be cut into four section.. If you only use one roof, It will be around 2''short front to back and side to side... Well by using two roof top to do the job, You can cut the back driver's side 2'' longer on the front and down the middle on roof #1,, Then on roof #2 front driver's side cut it 2'' longer on the back side and middle side.. and when you go to tack them into place you will end up with one weld down the center both way's.. By using two roof's, If you plan it right.. You won't end up with a 2'' piece down the middle and side to side.. Now I said 2''. That measurement may be different.. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say here... I think that's what Mr.Bob was trying to explain to you.. ![]() You will do the door's after the top is done..
