1980 C3 blower motor wont shut off

The blower motor lever (up/down) is marked low thru hi and the control lever (right/left) has off all the way to the left. With the blower lever on low and the control lever all the way to the left on the off position the blower motor is still on low. I just picked up this car and the last guy's fix was just to unplug it at the relay in the motor compartment. Would this be a shorted relay and the up/down lever should shut it off or would it be the cable for the control lever (right/left) that can be adjusted under the center console. Or is that adjustment on the cable under the center console for something all together different.

In a nut shell just wondering what shuts off the blower motor ......

i believe that it will always run very low with the switch all the way down you need to shut the heat or a/c system off for the blower to stop completely also make sure your not in defrost mode that will keep the blower on also

im sorry for some reason i thought you had a chevy truck.... what kind of car is it?

Both the heat / defroster and the A/C are in the off position or as far left as they can slide at least. I did notice one of the controls has a white plastic adjuster on the cable about 4 inches off the assembly. I'm assuming that will just adjust the throw of a door or something to direct air flow inside the airbox. Then the other control I believe is vacuum driven. I have pulled the A/C pump off and do not plan on using any of that stuff. When I got the car the wires for the A/C pump were already unplugged along with the plug on the relay to power the blower motor. Who ever "worked" on this car had the theory of just unplugging non vital components that did not work properly instead of fixing them.

At least I know where to look now. I figured the blower motor would be "off" when all the way down like modern cars of today are. I see how the other controls turn it on & off now and that just controls the speed it runs. Makes sense

a lot of times the levers will engage a switch mounted on the underdash unit itself you can get a wiring diagram of your car from ebay fairly easy i would start there and then chase your problems 1 at a time

There was a time when they ran the heater motor all the time. I think the theory was it would keep fresh air coming into the cab at all times.

Thanks guys ..... there is really no problem at all I guess. It's always on low whenever the key is on according to the link crashfarmer posted. I see the reasoning to keep fresh air moving but now I wonder how long blower motors last when they are always on .......

Does it run in the acc mode, asking because I would think that would be a huge draw on the battery. Thinking about the under the tree polishing and having the radio on keeping you company.
