1980 Camaro Question

Hey guys. I have a question. I'm a 15 year old girl from Georgia and I'm trying to get my 1980 Camaro up and running before I turn 16. Only thing is I live with my mom and need some help. I've stripped out the whole interior of carpet and trim and everything and I'm ready to install the new carpet and upholstery. Only thing is I can't figure out how to remove the center console. I think I need to remove the button on the gear shift, but I'm not sure. Before I put the new carpet down I'm going to sand down the floor and put a heat barrier so the floor doesn't get hot. But I gotta get the console off to do that! Once I get the floor done I can get the shock mount fixed and then get it painted. So, as you can see, everything hinges on that one little problem. If anyone could help me I would really really appreciate it. Thanks!!!!

Do you happen to have either a Haynes, or a Chilton's repair manual for your specific car yet?

Both should go into enough detail to help you remove the console.

You need to check out http://nastyz28.com
Its a site dedicated to 2nd gen camaros/birds.

You will need to remove a bolt that goes through the transmission hump/floorpan in order to get the console out.
