1980 camaro rear speaker shelf
 

hey guys i am redoing my 1980 camaro and my rear shelf panal was beat to hellby the sun when i bought it i want to take it out and i will be replacing it with a wooden homeade shelf with ustom fab on it but my problem is idk how exactly hopw to take it out or even if making it outt of wood or something else is a better idea i would appreciate the feedback on this i figured other materials would be a little stronger

Check with about any Camaro resto parts supplier...you'll be suprised how inexpensive a new reproduction package shelf "tray" is. :thumbup:

i looked at the link you posted and i do see how inexpensive they are bujt here is my question where is the cutout for the speakers do you have to cut out or what???

Every speaker has it's own shape depending on what you decide to use, so I would think you'd want to cut out the holes for them yourself.

You'll have to cut the speaker holes yourself, as the trays come solid. Most cars from that era didn't have rear speakers, just the one in the front of the dash. Aftermarket speakers and stereo installations was a big business back then, that is where Pioneer, Alpine and Rockford-Fosgate made their names

Factory engineered 4 speaker sound systems didn't become a standard on cars until the mid to late 1980's

You may have to take out the rear seat to get at it, but then it should come right out.

Factory engineered 4 speaker stereo systems were available by the mid '60s. They may not have been standard equipment, but all the car companies offered them. My brother ordered a brand new '65 Dodge Coronet convertible that had a reverberator as part of the system he ordered with the car. My brand new '72 Dodge Charger came with a 4 speaker stereo system that even had a cassette deck with it.
