The 2004R and 700R4 cannot support the same torque stock to stock as a TH350, although both can be rebuilt with the right parts of course to handle a lot more. At stock levels I do believe the 2004R will take more of a beating than the 700R4 as it was the O/D tranny put behind most turbocharged Buicks. But there is a larger aftermarket for the 700R4.

Next month I'm actually going to dive into a transmission project myself. Swapping out a TH-350 and putting in a 700R4 from a 92 S10 into a '76 Blazer. Other than rebuilding the 700R4 with stronger internals not designed for a V6 from what I've gathered so far, I've got to: relocate the crossmember, get a new driveshift with correct length or cut the current one down to size and then get the whole TV Cable setup correctly. Of which I've heard is a real pain in the butt to find the right carb adapter and get it adjusted correctly otherwise it will burn out the transmission in no time.
