1980 chevy rear end?

I have a 71' C10 chevy truck
355ci 400hp;415ft/lbs torque
Tremec 5spd
I pulled a 1980 chevy 1/2 ton rear end.Because I liked the gearing.I was wondering if I put it under my 71' if it will hold up?I plan to install a powertrax diff. in it also.If not do you know of any rear ends that will hold up?I have a ford 9" but I wanted to keep the chevy bolt pattern. Thanks

It probably won't bolt up. '71s generally had coil springs, and '80s had leaf springs. Other than that, they're the same inside.

12-bolts came with 30-spline axles and 10-bolts used to come with 28-spline axles. It doesn't sound like a big difference but a 30-spline is actually about 32% stronger then a 28-spline.

In 88 GM went to 30 spline axles in the 8.5" 10-bolt. When you get your new diff just get a 30-spline one. You can use junkyard axles out of a K5 or Sub from 88-91 or get aftermarket axles.
