1980 pontiac limited slip

i have a 1938 chevy,i put a 1980 firebird limited slip in it with disc brakes. It just makes too much noise after it gets hot when i stop and let off the brake, you can feel the car shake a little side to side and hear a noise in it. other then that it does fine going down the road. i put the GM posi stuff in it and it worked fine for about 500 miles then went back to this noise like it wore out the grease. I took that out then put synth. stuff in it and that lasted about 200 miles then back to the same problem. What i want to know is if i can put a regular punkin in this housing so i can keep the disc. brakes ? will my axles work in the regular ? whats in it now is a 308 gear. I Have another 1977 complete rear limited slip that we tore apart that has drum brakes, the side pin that holds the main pin in the spider gears broke off so i had to cut it out to get the axles out, im afraid this my happen to the one i have in the car, but if i do have to get it out thats the question, can i replace the punkin with a standar 8.5 punkin?
Thanks R.B.

Yes, The 8.5 has only two case offsets. The low numeric case is for 2.42 and 2.56 gear. The other fits 2.73 an up. There are two spline counts for the axles. All 8.5 up to 88 are 28 spline and 89 up is 30 spline. Always check a 88 model as they actually came either way depending an manufacture date. The broken bolt problem is a normal issue and there are many threads on here with possible fixes.

Thanks for the info, the housing i have with disc brakes in the car now has the 308 gear and the one i want to convert has a 17 and 41 ring and pinion with drum brakes, which i think is a 241 gear, so i will see what i can find , the info will help alot.
