1981 ford 302
How much horse power will a stock Ford 302 2bl out of 1981 LTD? It has 76,000 miles and runs great. I would like to put in in a 80's Mustang for a cheap drag car.

I did and the range is 135 to 225.

If its 200 ish horse power it will be a slower drag car,maybe high 15s-low 16s in a car weighing 3000 pounds. sell all that stuff and buy a mustang that has 200 plus horse power already and just needs a driver

200 hp = 13s,,,not likely. what gear ratio?I see closer to 300 hp for a cheapo 13 second car.what does the gutted mustang weigh exactly? with driver and fuel

You need a bigger budget
You probably have the worst heads on your 302 from a performance stand point you could ask for since you are on a budget you may want to look locally for these:Ford GT40 Cylinder Heads | eBay with the GT-40 head you can use your existing pushrods and parts.Yes,there are a lot of great aftermarket heads that will make more power but prepare to spend upwards of $1400 to go that route because of parts and modifications to fit them.

go to your local boneyard and look for a 5.0 ford explorer and rip the heads off they come factory with gt40p heads, the junk shouldn't charge you more than $200 for the heads although if i was doing a junkyard build id use a 87-92 mustang 302 engine since they have factory forged pistons and are roller motors

The downside to the GT40P heads is they will not clear most header flanges due to the spark plug angle being changed,no problem with the regular GT40's.You will find plenty of threads on the web where guys tried using the GT40P's and got in a mess and are looking for a way out.

He say is putting it in a fox body and almost every one makes the headers for those these days any ways and there cheap and every where
|
