Not sure what you would consider the "best" set-up, but the easiest would be SBC/T350. Definitely the easiest, and probably the cheapest too. G-body parts are all over the place, new and used.

Your Regal will fit any number of GM engines- everything from a 200 cid V6 to a GMPP 572 BBC is pretty much a bolt in. Pontiac, Olds and Buick engines will all fit w/o drama. The Cad 425/472/500 will also fit, takes a little more as far as motor mounts and such.

If you consider all the things you want the car to do well and compare that to your budget, your choices will be pared down some.

But personally, I think this car would be ideal for an LS-type engine in it. Costs more going in, like around $500 for the intake and ignition controller, but after the initial hit, these engines ROCK! Great potential, NA or boosted, w/o needing rad cams and such.

The EASIEST is to replace the Buick V6 with a Buick 350. EVERYTHING bolts up. A Buick 455 would be even better, but you need the 455 accessory brackets.
