1982 k5 blazer w/305 want to install a 700R4 trans

I have a 1983 K5 Blazer 2 wheel drive with a 305. My Transmission just went out which was a 400 3 speed and I want to change it for a 700R4. Can I do this if so what problem will I have. all I really know is that the 700R4 has some electrical components. I'm not to savay on transmission. Thanks

Are you sure you had a TH400 in an '83 K5 Blazer? It should have had an overdrive automatic already by 1983, or maybe a TH350.

The swap to a 700R4 is fairly easy, but you want one of the late 80's versions, after they improved the reliability. You do need an electrical kit to activate the lock-up torque converter.

I do have the 400 the guy before me put it in. How difficult is it to install the electrical kit.

This article might give you a better idea of a simple electrical installation - he uses a manual switch. http://www.smokemup.com/tech/700r4.php

This kit is fully automatic http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Inst...76600_inst.htm
