Hello all,

I just recently came across a project that I could not pass up. It is an 83 Chevy SWB GMC truck. Currently it has an inline 6(assuming 250, but I am unfamiliar) and I am going to drop a 350 in it to resell the truck since the 6 is knocking. What I am needing to know is what I will need in the line of clutch and flywheel to mate the 350 to the 3 speed that is in the truck. I have not really started researching anything on this setup so any info is appreciated. As far as I can tell it is all original.

Just use the setup from the 6. The flywheel, starter, & bellhousing will fit either engine. As long as the 350 is a 2-piece-seal version, and there's no problem adapting the clutch cross-shaft pivot ball on the driver's side, you should have no problems.

Look at the lifter covers on the passenger side of the 6. If they're ~4" tall, it's a 250 (assuming the engine is original). If they're more like 6" tall, it's a 292.

Thanks Jim! That is what I suspected on the flywheel assembly. Thank God Chevy believes in parts compatibility between engines. I have to go get the truck in a couple of days and I will take a look at the lifter covers. I did notice that it has a low spot in the center of the valve cover if that means anything. I have never delt with or paid any attention to these engines.
