1983 Chevy Blazer Rear Window help

at the top edges of my tailgate (w/power window) a crack has appeared in the metal and is heading downhill slowly. As this is increasing my rear window has become harder and harder to get to go up by itself and is now pretty much a two person job. My theory is that these cracks are allowing the rails that guide the window to become out of alignment therefore not positioning the window right as it lifts into the slides in the fiberglass top as it raises. My question is pretty simple; does this sound logical to anyone else? Has anyone dealt with this issue before? Is there an easy fix? Any knowledge or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Note: 1983 K5 Blazer 4x4

and yes, I have removed the panel and cleaned/lubricated and examined the tracks and rails for proper operation, etc. Everything seems fine inside.

Yep thats common. I had an 80 blazer and also an 85 with the same problem.You can weld the cracks up.Thats about the only fix.

I never thought about the sound itself either until one day I was cruising down the highway listening to something that had few bass notes. When one did hit, the speedowould just bounce down 5 mph or so....quite humorous I thought.

As for the window, I may not have been clear enough. We are only talking about the rear window in the tailgate, not the door windows ( they work fine). The rear window has been gradually getting worse in the last couple of years and I don't think it will cooperate through the winter. It was giving me issues long before the stereo was around. This blazer used to be a diesel originally but now is running a 350SBC so the electrical has always been a little 'odd'. I know, I know, it needs a whole new wiring harnass (ez wiring or painless) but realistically I have the electrical fairly stable right now and I honestly coreallate the window grief to the linkage mechanically some how whether it is worn out or out of alignment or whatever.

I am just hoping that there is someone out there that has been trhough this and can say "Yes, it is this and this and you can do this and this and it will be all better!!"

Boy does that sound pathetic after re-reading it.

wow, ask and yee shall recieve!!

no tricks to it? just weld it up and it should all be good? I was concerned with welding it up in the wrong position. I need improvement not just a stop.
