I'm in the process of puttin a 305 in my truck and all I need to do is wire it and hook up vacuum lines..problem is I'm not sure how to do either one..please help
If the original wiring is still intact, There are very few wires required to connect to the engine.
There is a wiring loom that runs across the back of the engine compartment near the left valve cover. That has these wires:
- wires running to the alternator BAT terminal and the two wire plug on the alternator (3 wires).
- start wire and fuse box power wire running down to the starter (2 wires)
There is also a power wire running to the HEI, and there may be a tach wire running to the HEI.
You also need the large (red) battery cable running from the positive battery terminal, and the black battery cable from battery negative to a ground point on the alternator bracket or engine block.
Other wires you may have:
- A/C compressor (dark green)
- temp gauge sensor (green)
- choke power wire (color?)
- A/C idle solenoid
