I have a 454 from a suburban that is already out with tranny still attached. It was given to me. i didnt hear it run but was told by person i got it from that it ran. i want to rebuild it with more power but not looking for anything to monsterous...I am also looking not to spend thousands. somewhere around 400 to 500 hp would be good enough for me. can someone help me? also, what car would be a good canidate to house this huge motor and tranny? any suggestions closest to a straight bolt-in without clearance problems and cuting and sheet work would be helpful.
cost about $1000 to do a basic rebuild with new pistons. add another 300 if you get the machine shop to do the assembly
if the engine has 781 heads then use those with small domed pistons. early 396/402 heads (820's) are also a good choice with flat tops and a 454.

use oil additive with any aftermarket cam. todays emission oils are tough on flat tappets, especially BBC's. use at break in and at each oil change. www.zddplus.com.
Invest in a MIG, Sawzall, cutting torch outfit and a good 4" hand grinder. Then find a derelict Chevette and........
