Post 1985 camaro box query

I have a modle A with a SB 350 and th350 box, both are on there way out.I have a chance of a cheap doner car 1985 z28 camaro with a good 305 ,question is what gearbox do these run and is it possible to use it without changing the wiring on the A ? am i write in thinking these modles have a conputor on board?

You could use your intake and distributor on the Z28 engine and not have to use a computer.

The transmission is a overdrive and there are wiring kits available to use it without the GM factory computer.

WOULD THE 305 FROM THE Z28 MATE SRAIGHT UP TO THE TH350?HOW IS THE 305 COMPAIRED TO THE 350 WHAT IS IT THAT MAKES THE 350 MORE SORT AFTER

Yes, the 305 will bolt up to the Turbo 350 just like the 350 SBC did.

The 305 and the 350 share the same stroke crankshaft specifications ( 3.48 inches ). The 350 SBC comes with a 4.00 bore, which makes the engine larger in cubic inches.

The 350 is much more sought after because of the power it produces compared to a 305.

If may well be better to rebuilt your 350 and forget about the donor car. You will have spent a fair amount of money and time to have a slower vechicle with a NOT fresh engine.

On the other side of the coin, if your 350 is hard to start, hard to cool in a Model A, and just plain out wore out........the 305 could solve part of your problems.

305's, as a rule, run cooler, are easier to crank, and get by on lower octane fuel.

thanks for the advise,ive been thinking on it and i think ill look into a rebuild or a crate as the cost of a dicent rebuild overhere in England would be more than a crate,how do you guys over there rate the crate motors
