1985 Dim Lights on Dash

Hi, I have a 1985 corvette and the dash lights dim out. When you first start it up the lights are bright and then they dim out,and the dim switch seems to not work at all when moving it. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks. Bill

The headlight switch has variable resistor that changes value as you rotate the switch thus dimming the lights.
Most likely the switch is bad but it could be a bad connection.

I'm going to give you a quess here.If your dash is bright when you start up and then goes into a backlite position, you might have something like an LCD relay that may be defective. The purpose of this relay is to switch over to a dimmer phase when set on autolamp.

Most likely the dimmer switch is no good and once it is on it heats up and resistance increases and causes the lights to dim. I would try a new dimmer switch. You may also want to check all the grounds for the dash. Corvettes are prone to grounding issues
