1985 ford winsdor rockers...How Strong ?

I am currently involved in a 351 W buildup with the non adjustable, bolt two to the stands at a time with 5/16 bolts style rocker arms.....
They don't look all that strong to me and the pivots look and feel kind of shot.
are these really weak or what?
How stiff a spring at what RPM I wonder before they fail ?
I think what needs done is to put in 3/8 studs and use maybe rollers
will I need to cut the stands to do that ?
anybody know anything about putting sbc valves in windsor heads ?
Cam will be schnieder 260/270 or 270/280 or maybe single pattern, around .480 or so lift
194 intakes 1.54 or 1.6 exhausts
ported heads,9 to 1
my main ?? is are the stock 84 rockers weak?

Anybody ?

351W mods

It isn't that the rocker is weak as much as there is a limited amount of adjustment with them to compensate for the lift of a performance cam. Before you waste bucks doing mods to those heads, check out Summits prices on the World Windsor Jrs.They will out flow what you have and you can use the early SBF rockers that are adjustable and available at moderate prices. And would I recommend using 25 year old rockers with a new H.P. Cam? The outcome would be

Me and my apprentice are porting them so cost no big deal on porting costs on obsolete heads....But Yeah ...I know.... You are dead right but I am trying to show a younger kid how it used to Be done
we were going to use sbc valves because I can get 1.94 and 1.6 for 2.50 each
all in all we will have a halfway good set of heads for maybe $400 oh well-
I am looking for those of you that are good with ford w motors and can use the advice.......

The adjustable rocker arm assemblies would be the way to go. Otherwise you would have to purchase different push-rods.

If you are going to stay with the stock rotating assembly, a little porting matching will help. Keep in mind, too much porting will hinder the air flow, not help it.

When switching to larger valve sizes, be careful you do not port too much, and go into water.

Note: Even with the after-market cylinder heads, you will need quality screw in studs, and adjustable push rod alignment guide plates. Don't cheap out on these, because all you will do is break off the rocker studs. I've seen this before.
