i recently bought 1986 chevy caprice i am in the process of installing an 350 with a 400 turbo but i think im going to have issues with crossmember room does anyone know of an extension or special cross member for this year and model chevy

they didnt put 400 trannies in these cars as a factory option so there is no factory part that will work directly without mods

as you have now found out

this trans is closest to the length of the 700r4 that they put lots of into these cars, but is wrong spline count on output shaft as long as its not an 87 up 3L80HD(C10 pickups 87 to early 90s had these with the 305 engine etc.) it is a 400 trans with a 27 spline tail and is longer than usual

86 Caprice's came with TH700R4, TH200C & TH2004R. The 2004R mount position is the same as a TH400 so, a Crossmember from a Caprice w/2004R will work fine.
You will need a shorter DS with 32-spline Yoke.
