1987 cutlass supreme rear end help

I have a 1987 cutlass supreme i am in the process in rebuilding the motor and i would like to put a new rear end in it. I don't know what i have know but i would like to put a posse in it. my mechanic says to go with a gm 10 bolt 8.5 but they seem almost impossible to find used in Michigan junk yards does any one have any suggestions on what kind of rear end i should be looking for. the transmission is a 350 turbo. With a 2,500 stall i am soon to be getting. thank you all for any help i may get.

For strength it's the 8.5" or Aftermarket 9", 12Bolt or S60. Moser, Strange, Currie.
8.5"'s hard to find, they only cam in H/O HurstOlds, 442, Buick GN,GNX & T-Type.

As noted, the G-body 8.5" axles were only installed in the 1984 Hurst/Olds and the 1985-87 442 and GN. Good luck finding one of these at a decent price. The Ford 8.8" has been installed with some success, but as with the A-body axles, this requires custom control arms (due to the attachment misalignment) and potentially custom wheel offset. The best bet is to go with one of the 9" housings built for the G-body.
